The inviting beats and accompanying music flowed seamlessly. Feet tapped the floor rhythmically. The disc jockey went about his business smoothly as bodies gyrated graciously in the moves of Dance-a-thon. It was all good. Even the refreshments supplied by the Teabreakers blended nicely for the occasion. Children and young adults living with developmental disabilities as well as other people without the phenomena participated together in the fun-filled event tagged ‘Dance-A-Thon’, geared towards creating value.
The concept of Dance-a-thon is a collaborative initiative of Children’s Developmental Centre and Fuzion Fitness Centre, a professional fitness-dance training organisation. Albeit the primary goals of this concept were to promote social inclusion and create more awareness on matters of disabilities, the event was also a great opportunity for participants to improve on physical fitness, network socially, recreate, unwind in a fun-filled atmosphere and also be part of a noble initiative to drive positive change.
We were even honoured with the esteemed presence of the renowned Mrs. Adesuwa Onyenokwe, the publisher of Totally Whole (Today’s Woman) magazine; she was among the people who rocked the maiden edition of our Dance-a-thon event held at Teslim Balogun Stadium in December 2014. It was an inclusion fitness-dance to create more awareness on the issue of developmental disability matters and the need for better social integration policies in Nigeria.
The next episode of CDC-Fuzion powered Dance-a-thon will be staged in 13th of June, 2015. Unilag Sports Complex is the venue. Now why would you miss this train…why? Don’t miss it, people. Please join us on the next Dance-a-thon groove this April as we rock the place again for a good cause to support people with developmental disabilities and their families.
